Elizabeth is a clever 7-year-old in the third grade with big dreams of becoming a teacher. She lives with her mother and younger sibling in a small, rented metal shack where she struggles daily with the lack of water, electricity, and sanitation.

Her parents, both petty traders, work tirelessly to enable their children to go to school and provide them with a roof over their heads. Despite all the hardships, Elizabeth is hopeful and full of life, she is enthusiastic about learning and enjoys playing netball.
