Matthew from Australia

My name is Matthew; I come from Australia. I’ve been in Malawi for 7 weeks now. There is so much to do here and every little project has a big impact on the community. I have particularly enjoyed working at Kazembe primary school both during the day and at the help2kids afternoon programs. Everyone is so friendly and willing to learn, it has been amazing. However, it’s the people in Lifuwu that has been my favourite part of the volunteering experience, everyone is extremely kind and welcoming and many of them I now call my friends. Whenever I have any free time I like to try and teach some of my friends in the village guitar or some basic computer skills, while they help me learn Chichewa, tailoring and sometimes dancing! It’s a wonderful place with wonderful people, and I like to think that’s why they call Malawi the heart of Africa.
