Bajeviro Rainbows and help2kids Children's Home

Here at help2kids we believe that sports can be so much more than just physical exercise. Learning to follow a routine and receiving positive re-enforcement for abiding by the rules are just two examples of the benefits of group physical activities on children and youth.  Participating in sports helps children develop leadership skills through team building. By establishing the Rainbows Football Team, we aim to allow our kids a space to express their energy in a positive way.

The objective of the after school Sports Program is to provide the children of the primary school with activities that allow them to learn about teamwork, leadership, and developing athletic skills, all while having fun! With the help of private sponsors, we have been able to establish two football teams: an under 15 boys' team and an under 15 girls’ team, both representing the school under the banner of ‘The Rainbows.’ Both teams have a coach who is assisted by help2kids volunteers interested in coaching football. Our goal is to have two competitive teams that are able to play against other primary schools in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. For regular news on the Rainbows, please visit their Facebook page

At present, the children of the Children’s Home have swimming lessons once a week and play football and netball daily with the Mamas and volunteers at the home. The swimming lessons are particularly important as they promote safety and prevent accidents. Despite the proximity to the sea, most children in the area do not know how to swim. Under the supervision of the Children’s Home Coordinator, help2kids volunteers teach weekly swimming lessons.
