help2kids Projects
Everything is going well at help2kids. Last week our beloved Mama Leah left for 4 months as she is expecting a baby later this month. We were sad to see her go but the children are very excited that we will have a baby around when she returns December. Mama Lucy, who also attended Upendo College in Moshi and has a certificate in childcare, will fill in while Mama Leah is gone. Last week we also said goodbye to Kristina, a volunteer from Switzerland who was with us for ten months. She has returned home to attend university and we wish her all the best in her future. The children miss her very much, but she will come to visit over Christmas, so we are all looking forward to that. As most of our readers know, help2kids runs a children’s home in Dar es Salaam, and teaches English and computer lessons at a local NGO school called Wamato, but did you know that we also support other projects in the community?
help2kids now sponsors five Standard 1 students at Wamato. This means paying for their uniforms, school supplies, and lunch. We also cover any health-related costs. Our support gives these children from extremely poor backgrounds the opportunity to get an education. (Our sponsored students photographed below. Please note one student was absent and is not pictured).
We also send volunteer teachers and supplies to Kunduchi Nursery school and community center. Kunduchi is a poor fishing village located about 15 minutes from our Friendly Gecko Guest house. The children in Kunduchi really benefit from our lessons and the volunteers love the village environment. Last month the school lost its building, so we are now working on building a new space for the nursery school. With lots of hard work from our volunteers, we know we will create a great new place to learn and have fun. In the meantime, our creative volunteers made a roof out of rice bags to create shade and are teaching classes outside!
Wishing you a wonderful week.
Best regards,
Karina Catlin – Field Manager
