Tanzania's Children
The number of children affected by aids is increasing rapidly.
Thousands children in Tanzania live under the poverty line. Thousands children do not have enough to eat and do not have access to proper clothing and shoes. 105 out of 1'000 children die before the age of 5, many because of diseases or infections that could be treated. The maternal mortality rate amounts to 790 at 100'000 births, that means the 12th position on a worldwide ranking of the highest maternal mortality rate.
- 17% of the children in Tanzania are undernourished.
- 7% of the population is infected by HIV. That means 1.4 Million HIV infected people and Tanzania is the 6. country with the most infected people worldwide.
- There is no health care available for poor people (too expensive or too far away). Therefore many children and adults die because of diseases that could be easily treated like Malaria, Pneumonia or Diarreah.
- Life expectancy avarages 52 years.
- The cost of education still prevents many families to send their children or all of the them to school.
