Spring Break

Dear Readers:

This week is Spring Break in Tanzania. It means that the children are home from school and spending lots of time playing and relaxing. It also means that everyone gets a chance to use the computers and have one-on-one time with the mamas and volunteers.

Despite the fact that it is officially school break and everyone else is on vacation, our Standard 3 students continue to go to school. When it is not vacation they usually leave for school at 7 am and return at around 5 pm on weekdays, and have half days on Saturdays. These are much longer school hours than any other children at help2kids. This week they have been attending school every morning. While we love that their teacher is so motivated, we miss them a little bit too! Here are pictures of our hardworking Standard 3 boys (Evaristo, Pascal, and Augusti) washing their school uniforms, Zainabu (our only Standard 3 girl), and Evaristo.

The problem with our septic tank is finally getting addressed! Our landlord has been here all week with various repair men looking at the pipes. We hope the problem gets fixed soon so we stop having to call in trucks to empty it every week, which gets very expensive.

We are happy to report that the community is getting more involved with help2kids. Last week a group of Tanzanians from a nearby church brought donations of rice, sugar, beans, flour, soap, oil, fruit, and juice. They also offered some very kind words of hope and encouragement to our children who have all lost loved ones. We are so thankful for their support!
